Binge

Back a few months ago, we were in the market for a new TV series to knock us off our feet..something interesting that we'd be looking forward to watching every week. A friend suggested we watch the first season of Orange is the New Black. I was skeptical that Tyler would be interested at all because the story line revolved around women in prison. I wasn't sure he'd be able to connect with the characters or get interested in the plot. As much as he likes his job, he tends to stay away from dramas involving police work or jails/prisons. I think he finds them less than accurate in content. But people just kept telling us, you have to watch it.

I found the first season on the shelves at Wal-Mart but following seasons could only be viewed online through Netflix. Tyler and I settled in on the couch one Saturday without the kids and prepared to watch. When we finally stopped for the night, we had made it through two discs in the four disc series.  We were completely engrossed in the sharpness of the drama. It was riveting and but raunchy. The characters were intriguing, their stories kept us on the edge of the couch all night. We couldn't wait to see what Piper would be faced with next. It only took one or two more nights of watching to complete the second two discs. We were completely hooked but until now, we haven't had access to the internet to watch season two.

Last night we decided we were going to do it again... we were going to pick a new show and binge watch. We spent a lazy weekend watching season one and part of season two of Dexter. To be honest, with each of the first few episodes, Tyler and I were both kind of looking at each other confused. Like..should we like this kind of TV show? The more I watched, the more involved I became in the story line. Dexter, a dark superhero of sorts, killing for the justice of others... is just a straight up serial killer. He blends in with his peers and in relationships all the while, he seems to be completely emotionless and empty. His story is so consuming. It makes me wonder if there are people around me who are the same way. Regardless, Dexter is now on our binge list.
